The Importance of Mobility: Why It Matters and How I Bring It Into My Yoga Practice

When people think of yoga, flexibility often takes center stage—but there's another vital piece that deserves just as much attention: mobility. While flexibility is the ability of a muscle to lengthen, mobility is the ability of a joint to move actively through its full range of motion. It's what allows us to move with ease, grace, and strength in everyday life—from reaching overhead to picking something off the floor, or flowing through a vinyasa practice.
As a yoga teacher who’s been practicing since my teenage years and teaching since I was 19, mobility has become one of the foundations of how I move and how I teach. Over the years, I’ve noticed that when we focus on strengthening within our range of motion, rather than just stretching into it, our bodies feel more supported, more resilient, and more capable—on and off the mat.
That’s why I love incorporating mobility work into my yoga classes. You’ll find me layering in joint articulation, strength-based transitions, and mindful movements that challenge your control and stability, not just your flexibility. It’s about creating a practice that supports real-life movement and promotes long-term joint health.
To help more people experience the benefits of this approach, I created a Beginner Mobility Series—an 8-part yoga/mobility fusion designed to help you build a solid foundation. Whether you're brand new to movement or simply looking to move better and feel stronger in your body, this series is the perfect way to start.
If you’ve been feeling stiff, tight, or restricted, mobility training could be the missing piece. Come explore what your body is truly capable of. You might be surprised by how good it feels to move with intention.
